His extensive collection includes material from many years of the Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race, and Henley Royal Regatta. He also lectures and writes on rowing history and is a Trustee of the River and Rowing Museum.

It shows the lock as it was when the whole operation of the lock was controlled from a central panel situated in the lock office. A similar system was used at Old Windsor Lock. The system was abandoned some years later.
