Cigarette card titled 'R Pearce' showing, in coloured litho on card, the Australian/Canadian at rest in his single.On the reverse the heading 'Champions - A series of 48 - No. 15 ' with the heading 'R. Pearce' underneath text how Pearce won the Diamonds in 1931 and the Sculling Championship of the World in 1933 beating A.E.Phelps. At the bottom 'Park Drive Cigarettes - Gallaher Ltd., London and Belfast',(Note this is E A 'Ted' Phelps not A E Phelps).
Note there is a duplicate card which appears to be identical apart from the absence of 'R.Pearce' in the bottom left hand corner on the obverse, 2003.532.1227.
Part of the Thomas E. Weil Collection. Thomas E. Weil is a very knowledgeable and respected collector of rowing memorabilia from all over the world. His extensive collection includes material from many years of the Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race, and Henley Royal Regatta. He also lectures and writes on rowing history and is a Trustee of the River and Rowing Museum.
