Cigarette card titled 'Ted Phelps' showing, in colour lithograph on card Phelps smiling wearing his scarlet Doggetts Coat and Badge. On the reverse the heading 'Sporting Personalities - A series of 48 -No.16'. Underneath text headed 'Ted Phelps' describing how he won Doggetts in 1930, later won the world's sculling championship from Bert Barry, and successfully defended his title against Barry's challenge in 1935. At the bottom 'Issued by Gallaher Ltd.-Virginia House , London and belfast.'
Part of the Thomas E. Weil Collection. Thomas E. Weil is a very knowledgeable and respected collector of rowing memorabilia from all over the world. His extensive collection includes material from many years of the Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race, and Henley Royal Regatta. He also lectures and writes on rowing history and is a Trustee of the River and Rowing Museum.
