Cigarette card titled 'H.R.Pearce' under a heading 'Ogden's Cigarettes', showing in coloured lithograph on card, a closeup stern on view of Pearce posed forward on his slide in his single. On the reverse the heading 'Champions of 1936- A series of 50' - 'No.39'. Underneath text headed 'H.R.Pearce -World's Sculling Champion' describing how he defeated Ted Phelps for the title in Canada in 1933, then defended it the next year against the American W.G.(Bill) Mitchell (Miller) in 1934. At the bottom 'Issued by Ogden's Branch of the Imperial Tobacco Co. Ltd
Part of the Thomas E. Weil Collection. Thomas E. Weil is a very knowledgeable and respected collector of rowing memorabilia from all over the world. His extensive collection includes material from many years of the Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race, and Henley Royal Regatta. He also lectures and writes on rowing history and is a Trustee of the River and Rowing Museum.
