Henley Regatta Ladies Challenge Plate Prize Medal won by E.B. Gibson of Royal Chester Rowing Club, 9th June 1856.
This Henley win was achieved in the first keelless boat; 'Victoria' the product of stroke J.B. Littledale and builder Matt Taylor; "There were vociferous objections both at the time and subsequently on the status of the Chester Crew to enter the Ladies, normally reserved for College Crews"
'Victoria' is on display in the Rowing Gallery.
Part of the Thomas E. Weil Collection. Thomas E. Weil is a very knowledgeable and respected collector of rowing memorabilia from all over the world. His extensive collection includes material from many years of the Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race, and Henley Royal Regatta. He also lectures and writes on rowing history and is a Trustee of the River and Rowing Museum.
