Description
Bronze participation medal for the 1924 Paris Olympics; executed in combination of classical and art deco style. One of these was given to each Olympic athlete, including each rower.

The obverse shows a winged woman draped in toga and holding wreaths in left hand places wreath on athlete's head with right hand - well-muscled athlete wearing loincloth stands patiently before her as other athletes wait to receive their awards "Raoul Benard". The reverse shows a demi-lune panel with view of Ile de la Cite " VIIIe Olympiade/ Paris/ 1924/ and "RB" in a monogram.

Part of the Thomas E. Weil Collection. Thomas E. Weil is a very knowledgeable and respected collector of rowing memorabilia from all over the world. His extensive collection includes material from many years of the Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race, and Henley Royal Regatta. He also lectures and writes on rowing history and is a Trustee of the River and Rowing Museum.
