Carte de visite inscribed in pen "Modson 1st Boat. Sept. 1872". It shows four schoolboy oarsmen and a coxswain, presumably from Cheltenham, posed outdoors in boaters and mufti. On the reverse is elaborate printed advertising text and decoration, including "R. Dighton, Artist, Cheltenham" and signed in pen "E.C. Jones (bow), G.D. Alston (2), D. Arnott (3), C. Donald (str), Beadon? (cox)".

His extensive collection includes material from many years of the Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race, and Henley Royal Regatta. He also lectures and writes on rowing history and is a Trustee of the River and Rowing Museum.
