Berkley's Black Eye'd Maid

Published September 20th 1827 by S.W. Fores, 41 Picadilly, London.

"All useful arts, a bore, your Dandies vote
And row - Six Poodles in a six Oar'd boat"

Mounted hand coloured engraving showing six men in striped shirts pulling an unrigged skiff with two ladies in the stern and a waterman with several badges on his sleeve standing behind to steer; several boats, notably an eight wearing yellow sombreros, and with two male passengers and a coxswain, pull away in the background.

Part of the Thomas E. Weil Collection. Thomas E. Weil is a very knowledgeable and respected collector of rowing memorabilia from all over the world. His extensive collection includes material from many years of the Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race, and Henley Royal Regatta. He also lectures and writes on rowing history and is a Trustee of the River and Rowing Museum.
