Description
Henry Kelley Champion of the Thames and Yare

Published by George Newbold 303 & 304 Strand c1860.

Mounted hand coloured lithograph showing a bearded, bare-chested Kelley siting in his craft, torso forward, arms extended, in the near foreground; craft visible in the background include typical river traffic, but also a coxed four and eight, and several randans; the far shore is crowded with spectators standing in front of the Lodon Rowing Club and the Star & Garter, suggesting that this image records one of Kelley's triumphant moments.

Part of the Thomas E. Weil Collection. Thomas E. Weil is a very knowledgeable and respected collector of rowing memorabilia from all over the world. His extensive collection includes material from many years of the Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race, and Henley Royal Regatta. He also lectures and writes on rowing history and is a Trustee of the River and Rowing Museum.
