'Taylor Buildings from High Street' - Sepia photograph of The Taylor Insitute, Oxford. The Taylor Institute was built in 1844 and is Oxford University's centre for the study of European languages and literatures. It was named after the architect Sir Robert Taylor (1714 - 1788) who bequethed money to the University for the study of European languages. Photographed by Henry Taunt c1870.

From a collection of views along the River Thames photographed by Henry Taunt. Henry Taunt was born in in Oxford in 1842 and rose from poverty to establish himself as an extremely successful and skilled photographer. His work has created a unique photographic record of Victorian life.
