'Twenty-sixth Aldeburgh Festival' programme

Programme of the Aldeburgh Festival held at Aldeburgh and the Snape Maltings annually. The Festival was started in 1948 by Benjamin Britten, Peter Pears and Eric Crozier. John Piper often designed costume and sets for Britten/Pears productions, and so was good friends with both. Both John and Myfanwy Piper often contributed to the Festival.

This programme is from the 15 June -2 July 1973 festival, and featured in the programme of events 'Death in Venice'. an opera with music by Britten and libretto by Myfanwy Piper, while John Piper designed the scenery.

John Piper often designed the covers for these programmes, including this one which features 'Palazzo Pesaro, Venice'.
