Description
London's Riverside: Past, Present and Future

By Eric de Mare

Abstract: "is concerned with that part [of the Thames] which gave birth to the largest city in the world. The first part (six chapters) makes an admirable attempt to unravel the 'tangled skeins' of London's riverside story and 'to weave from them clear, articulate and formalised patterns'. The second part of four chapters consists of rambling perambulations from Chelsea to the Tower. The last chapter, 'Fantasy of the Future', summarises the many plans that have mostly come to nothing and ends with the author's inspiring if, alas, visionary picture of the future. The book is profusely illustrated and is rightly recommended by the Book Society."
