Description
CD copy of an oral history recording on a mini-disc of Lt Col David McLellan. Lt. Colonel recalls his times rowing at Oundle School and for Imperial College. While at Imperial College he rowed in the 1945 Henley Regatta. He gives an interesting insight to training on the Thames during the war. He also recalls rowing against Reading University and describes carrying their oars to Reading on public transport. The shortage of fuel meant that they were unable to take their own boat but borrowed one of the Reading boats. He recalls that there was some surprise that the 1945 Regata was held in Henley as the war was still in progress in the Far East. At this Regatta the officials decided that the rules about the Amateur Rowing Asociation and the National Rowing Amateur Rowing Association not competing together should be re-introduced having been suspended during the war.The Peace Regatta,as it was known, took place over two days, with races for schools as well as rowing clubs.
