Description
Rupert Guiness's Single Scull 1894

This boat was built by J.H.Clasper of Putney in 1894 in cedar. It is five feet (1.53 metres) longer than present day sculling boats, and - with modern components fitted - was sculled over the Henley course in 1996 by the lightweight champion Peter Haining.

The boat belonged to Rupert Guinness who won the Diamond Sculls in it in 1895 and 1896. He consumed a whole chicken before the final in 1895 and was clearly unimpressed by his opponent Guy Nickalls's advice to 'take your boat in, Rupert, you have no chance against me'. Guinness also beat Nickalls in a heat in 1896.
