Description
Great Britain's Sydney 2000 Olympic Eight

This is the eight used by the GB crew that won the Sydney 2000 Olympics. Built by Vespoli USA, it was chosen by GB coach, Martin McElroy, because he was impressed by the company's research on hull shapes. The shape of the hull, constructed from carbon fibre throughout, seeks to minimise the combined effects of wave and surface drag, and several other hydrodynamic and aerodynamic improvements were made to the parts that stick out, including a combined fin and rudder by Carl Douglas, and a transparent 'skirt' worn by cox Rowley Douglas and taped to the boat.

Boat - Vespoli USA; outriggers - Aerowing by Carl Douglas Racing Shells, Staines; oars - Super Stiff Slick 75s by Croker, Australia.
