Boatbuilder's model of a clinker built keeless eight from the 1880s.
This model was made by Matthew Taylor of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and is one of the earliest keeless eights. Both the model and the full size boat were made for Oxford University Boat Club. Taylor showed the crew the proper way to send his boat along as quickly as possible, to victory in the 1857 Boat Race. Taylor's four for Royal Chester Rowing Club is featured in the Rowing Gallery.
