Description
Photograph showing the Orkney Cottage Boat Club four about to start a race.

The photograph shows the crew poised ready to start rowing, with the boat being held by a man in a punt wearing a boater hat. He is accompanied by a dog and another man.

The river bank, and two large trees are visible in the background. The inscription informs us that the crew won the Lawson Challenge Cup at the Maidenhead Regatta of 1891 (third successive year). The photograph may well be a recreation of that event, rather than one taken at the time.

The crew are identified as HBN Cotton (bow), WFC Holland (2). RC Lehmann (3), CW Kent (4) and Claude Serocold (cox).

The photograph is mounted in a cream mount (slightly foxed). The Orkney Cottage crest is printed at the top of the mount, together with the inscription "1891 Winners of Lawson Challenge Cup Maidenhead Regatta (Third Succesive Year)". The window, sub-rectangular in shape, is trimmed in gold.
