British Rowing
British Rowing is the governing body for rowing for England and Great Britain. It was founded formally in 1882, though there is a press reference to the association in 1881. It grew out of the short-lived Metrolpolitan Rowing Association, one of its purposes being to form representative crews to guard against foreigners winnning English trophies.

Scotland and Wales have their own governing bodies for national affairs. Northern Ireland, the fourth country in the United Kingdom, is part of the all-Ireland Irish Amateur Rowing Union. British Rowing's international office (BIRO) therefore deals with representative GB crews at senior, under-23 and junior level encompassing rowers from England, Scotland and Wales. British Rowing is affilited to Fisa, the International Rowing Federation.
