Bill Mundy was born in 1936 in Berkshire and is said to have painted his first portrait before his 5th birthday. After an apprenticeship as a lithographic artist he spent his military service in the Far East as a cartographer during the Malayan Emergency. He lived in Asia for 20 years where his career progressed from Creative Director to the position of Area Director for Asia with an international group of US advertising agencies. While in Asia he became the ‘Court Painter’ to the Johor Royal Family in Malaysia. He returned to England in 1978 to become a full-time artist and portrait painter. Included among his many awards are: The RMS (Royal Society of Miniature Artists) Gold Memorial Bowl, The HS Bell Award for Portraiture (3 times), Best of Show and Best Portrait (twice) at the MASF (Miniature Art Society of Florida) Annual Show in the USA. He also won 'The Exhibit of the Year' twice at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London. He has exhibited at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters Annual Exhibitions and regularly at the RA Summer Exhibitions. Bill Mundy is a member of the RMS, The Miniature Artists of America, The MASF, and the Hilliard Society. He was commissioned to paint an equestrian miniature portrait for HM Queen Elizabeth in 1999, and is the only living miniaturist to be represented at the Victorian and Albert Museum in London.
