'The best known and best of a family of marine painters. He lived in London and perhaps Bristol, and exhibited in London from 1825 to 1866. He painted in oil and watercolour on the southern coasts of England and off France, Belgium and Holland. He used a distinctive dark green amd rubbing for his seas'
