Nickalls, Guy (1866-1935) was the best known oarsman and sculler of his day and still holds the record for the number of Henley medals won - twenty-three. An Oxford blue, he also won a gold medal in the 1908 Olympic Eight for Great Britain. His name is perpetuated in the Silver Goblets and Nickalls' Challenge Cup for pair-oars at Henley, an event he won six times, three of them with his brother Vivian. His son Gully Nickalls was also a distinguished oarsman who became secretary of the Amateur Rowing Association.
