GREG SEARLE, Olympic champion and Henley Steward
Greg Searle has competed in three Olympic finals, all of which were split-second thrillers in the struggle for medals. With his elder brother Jonny and coxswain Garry Herbert he won gold in the coxed pairs in 1992 in Barcelona. Four years later the Searles with Tim Foster and Rupert Obholzer won bronze in the coxless fours in Atlanta, and in 2000 Greg and Ed Coode led the coxless pairs for 1500 metres before finishing fourth in a rush for the line.

Searle won two gold medals as a GB junior (1989-90) and five senior world championship medals - gold in coxed pairs 1993, bronze in the eight 1991, bronze in the coxless four 1994, silver in the coxless four 1995 and bronze in single sculls 1997. He was awarded the MBE in 1993 at the age of 20, and elected a Steward of Henley Royal Regatta in 2006.
